Pastured Ducks
Ducks are the signature animal we raise here at HoneyDel Farm.  Actually, we fell into them by accident, because it seemed like everyone else raised chickens, and we saw a demand from chefs who wanted to serve a superior and delicious alternative to the conventionally raised ducks sold by mass producers.   The breed we raise our Grimaud Pekin's, which are a french strain of the large, white Pekin ducks.  They are raised out on our pasture behind electric fences and are moved regularly.  We feed them a custom ration we have made at Valley Feed, a family operated mill located in Bonner Springs and they are processed at a USDA inspected facility.  We are extremely proud of the results this produces.  Our ducks have been served at some of the nicest restaurants in the Lawrence and Kansas City area, and are excited to share them with your family too.

Pastured Chickens
Much like our ducks, our chickens are raised outdoors on grass for their entire lives.  We raise them in pens, designed by Joel Salatin.  They are open bottom pens that give our chickens access to fresh pasture, bugs, and plenty of sunlight, but still keep them safe from predators.  They are not given any antibiotics, or medicated feed at any time.  We move the chickens every day.  This helps keep their manure from building up, and also creates healthy soil, plus keeps them free from disease and parasites.
We raise our chickens in small batches in the spring and fall to help keep them from being over stressed.  This dedication creates a healthy and flavorful chicken that will rival what you can find in a grocery store.  Try one and see if you can tell the difference yourself.

Duck Eggs & Chicken Eggs
In addition to our ducks and chickens creating incredibly tasting meat, we also have some we raise to produce eggs.  Being that our hens are raised outdoors, on pasture, and moved regularly, the eggs we offer are absolutely fantastic.  If you have never had an egg raised locally, you really should compare it to a grocery store egg.  (Even the "farm fresh" ones)  You will find the yolks are a more rich color, and definitely not as runny, as well as having a more flavorlful taste to them.
Duck eggs are a larger egg than chicken, with a bigger yolk.  They have a richer taste than a chicken egg.  As well, they have a higher moisture content, and contain more albumen, which will make your baking items more fluffy.  Duck eggs have more Omega 3 fatty acids, and are not acidic like a chicken egg.  A lot of people who are allergic to chicken eggs find they can eat duck eggs.  (but don't just take our word for that ok?)

Forage Fed Lamb
Our sheep are 100% forage fed from our pasture, with no grain supplemented at any time.  Our flock is rotationally grazed, meaning they are moved very frequently, and then the pasture is given time to rest in between grazings.  This process creates a more healthy soil, which helps produce a more nutrient dense forage.  The intentional rest allows the parasite cycle to expire without having to treat the pasture with chemicals, or the sheep with parasite antibiotics.  We have Khatadin sheep, which are a hair sheep, meaning they shed naturally.  We like the Khatadin's as they are a hearty, self sufficient breed.  All of the lamb we sell are born and raised on our farm.   We do not medicate our sheep, unless it is absolutely necessary.
Our sheep are bred in November for spring lambs born in late April and May.  We typically raise them until they are almost one year old, and then sell them as whole lambs, or individual cuts.  Check our ordering page for availability.

Holiday Turkeys
We raise turkeys for the holiday season.  They are Broad Breasted White Turkeys, which are the most common commercially grown turkey. While they are the same breed, I can assure you that the similarities end there.  Our turkeys are given access to sun, fresh air, room to move, and healthy, chemical free pastures.    Just like our broilers, they are raised in open bottom pens and moved daily.  They have become a tradition for many folks to serve on their Holiday tables and we are humbled and proud to be able to have a part in it.  They go fast, so reserve them early.
